The sights and sounds of Lacey Green- A sensory poem by Class 4
Lesson: English
Class 4 have been starting to look at poems this week. Tying in with our science on our senses we have been thinking about how to describe the things we can see, hear, touch and smell. On Monday we listened to sounds from a rainforest and looked at pictures to think what it might be like to be there. This morning we decided to look a little closer to home and went for a walk all around our lovely school to investigate and really get ourselves thinking about the sights and sounds of our school.
We thought about what we could see and touch on the way from our classroom to the playground, all the exciting sounds and sights of the playground and then tiptoed back down the Junior Corridor to see what was happening down there! We also decided to add the sounds we often hear in the hall and the music room into our poem before arriving back at our classroom to write our findings into a poem.
The class worked really hard and Miss Humphreys was incredibly impressed at some of the suggestions they were provided and our ability to make our work more descriptive as a class! The lesson really helped to engage the senses. Together we wrote our own poem really concentrating on how to describe the things we had seen and heard. They worked well together to build upon suggestions to ensure they would provide an accurate description of the sounds and sights of Lacey Green.
The children enjoyed it so much that we came up with actions to symbolise the poem. Have a look at the poem here. (The video will follow tomorrow!)
