Science: Light

Lesson: Science

Year 6 have been studying light.  At the end of the Earth and Space unit we started investigating how the sun travelled across the sky and how the orbit of the moon caused it look differently over the month.  At the start of the light unit, we examined how light travelled using holes cut out of card slides.  Then we investigated how we see colours and we used prisms to split white light into different colours of the spectrum.  After understanding how we see colour, we examined how the full spectrum of colours can be reflected by a mirror.  In doing so, we were able to use a mirror to see round an opaque object.  Finally, we have studied how shadows are made and how the position of a light source can change the shape or size of an object.
