Propellers and the Wind Turbine Challenge

Lesson: Design and technology

The theme for Year 5 is 'aviation'.  We began by investigating propellers.  The class made autogyro copters to investigate how a propeller could be designed to resist the air.  Afterwards they competed in a challenge to build a propeller which could drive a turbine.  The winners would be the group who could lift the most amount of weight using the air from a hairdryer.
