Our Puppet Afternoon

Lesson: Design and technology

This half term we have been looking at animals. For our Design & Technology Project we decided it would be fun to make a hand puppet of our favourite animals.

First of all we had to pick one type of puppet, draw a picture and write 3 facts about it for our homework. We then shared this information with the rest of the class. We bought in puppets we had at home too. It was lovely to see such a variety.

Next we thought about what puppets for used for and who they were meant to entertain. We decided on our own success criteria and designed our own hand puppets.

We chose hand puppets as we felt these would be the simplest for us to make. We soon realised that sewing would be he best technique to create the main body of the hand puppet. We practised running stitch and over sewing before we made the real thing.

We carefully followed the colours and decorations that we had chosen in our designs. Luckily we had lots of parents to help us during the afternoon as there were lots of needles to thread and pieces of material to cut out for tails and whiskers e.t.c.

Finally we evaluated our puppets. We thought about what we loved about them and what we would do differently if we got the opportunity to make another one.

We hope you enjoy looking at our design process.
