Marionette Dolls
Lesson: Design and technology
Year 5 have spent their afternoon lessons this week making marionette dolls as they start to get excited for their War Horse trip at the end of the month. The dolls are made from mod rock - a material not too different to the plaster you'd find on a cast. First, the children had to make a string skeleton. Then they began to shape a body, arms, legs and a head around the string. Finally, they painted their design either going for an abstract figure or more human-like with clothes and a face.
Time was always against us as we had tests in the mornings and our usual foundational subjects in the afternoons (music, french and PE) but we all managed to make a working doll. Have a look to see how we got on and how some children did giving a master class to the other year groups.
