Learning about space has been a blast!
Lesson: Topic
We have now spent our final week learning about space before getting fully into the Christmas spirit. Our last week gave us a chance to focus on the role's of Astronauts. We watched some amazing videos of Tim Peake and Chris Hadfield in space showing us how they eat in space and how they brush their teeth. Some of us quite liked the idea of going to space and some were not so sure!
We tried our hand at space writing by sticking pieces of paper under the table and writing upwards. We certainly take our space helmets off to real astronauts - it was really tricky! We used marbelling techniques to make some space pictures and labelled illustrations from an amazing fiction book called 'The Darkest Dark' by Chris Hadfield himself. The children were most impressed that a real astronaut could write such a great story and we would highly recommend the book. Both the story and it's illustrations are really lovely.
R1 have had a great time learning about space and despite being busy with nativity preparations, where we became very different types of stars, have learned lots of different facts and have used the topic to continue to develop their maths and writing skills.
Well done R1, you've all really reached for the stars this half term!
