Hatching chicks!

Lesson: Science

Class 4 have been quietly awaiting the arrival of the first signs of hatching for the 5 eggs that have been in an incubator in our classroom for the past week. The other children in KS1 have been asking the class lots of questions about when they might arrive and are looking forward to being able to see them hatching too. Miss Humphreys was most excited to spot the first cracks in the eggs this morning! All of KS1 would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Shenton for bringing in the incubator and the eggs for us to be able to watch something so special.

5:55pm UPDATE 1st April- 3 chicks from the 5 eggs so far. Both of the other eggs have cracks on them. We hope to see 5 lovely chicks tomorrow morning.

The video below was created using the iMotion HD app for iPad which took a picture of the chicks every 30 seconds, excuse the movement and the momentary darkness! As you will see from the end segment of the video the chicks were certainly very active in the early stages of life. The video is best viewed as a full screen, keep an eye on the back egg in particular.
