DT Week in 1W
Lesson: Design and technology
It’s been a very busy week in Year 1. To kick start DT Week, we created our own masterpiece at home. A big well done to everyone for their fantastic ‘DT Week’ inspired home learning. We had bakers, chefs, builders, painters - very impressive and super efforts!
We then received our design brief in the post on Monday afternoon. Our challenge was to create a Halloween bunting.
First we explored existing products to get inspiration and to find out about different styles of bunting. We then tested different materials to find which was the best to use. We decided on felt as it was thick and brightly coloured - perfect for our bunting.
We then had to create 4 different designs and choose our favourite to be our ‘final design’. On Wednesday, we started to sew our bunting using a running stitch. Ask us to show you our action for this!
We then cut out different templates to create the shapes we needed for our design.
Miss Wortley and Mrs Chapman helped us glue the shapes, buttons, and pipe cleaners onto our bunting flag.
Finally it was time to share, reflect and evaluate. We decided what we liked about our finish product, and what we would change next time.
Have a look at our learning throughout this week along with our finished products in the pictures below!
