Class 5J - Multiplication

This week Year 5 pupils have been learning to develop their multiplication calculation strategies including  how to multiply two 2 digit numbers as well as two and a three digit number together. They have been using both formula and informal calculation strategies.

They particularly enjoyed using the dienes resources(base 10) to create area models. Later on, after some practice they were able to draw their own area models as well as taking the concept to basic multiplication grids.
