Class 4J - Sound ( Volume)

Lesson: Science

Class 4 J - Science

Unit - Sound - Volume

This week, the pupils in Year 4 continued their work on learning about Sound. The children began investigating volume. The key scientific question that the children were asked to answer this week was, ' How does distance affect the volume of a sound?'.

In order to be able to answer this question, the children were asked to undertake an outdoor investigation. They were asked in pairs to make a number of different clicks, stamps and claps and for the other partner to record how far they could travel ( measured in steps) before this child couldn't hear the sound.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experiment and managed to collect at least two sets of data to discuss back in the classroom.
