Class 4J - Religious Education

Christianity

This final week of the term, the pupils in Class 4J have been cosidering and exploring the key enquiry question relating to Christianity : Do people need to go to church to show they are Christians.

During the unit, the children were asked to consider and list their special places and discussed the difference between secular and religious places. The children were asked to match up a range of faiths and religious symbols with their religions.

Following on from this, he children considered all of the reasons why people might attend and visit a church. They were encouraged to find out more about baptisms, confirmation and also about Holy Communion whilst considering other important Christian faith celebrations such as weddings, Christmas, Christingle and also Easter.

At the end of the unit of work, the children were asked to apply their knowledge of why Christians attend church to writing a letter to convince a vicar to keep the church open following an announcement to close it temporarily.
