Lesson: Religious education

Class 4J- Religious Education - Judaism

During our first Religious Education unit this year in Year 4, the children revisited the Jewish faith. The key question of enquiry was to consider what the special relationship is between people of the Jewish people and God.

The children initially explored the original foundations of the faith by listening to and studying the story of Abraham and Sarah. This led on to the Story of Moses, Passover and the Ten Commandments. The children discussed the Ten Commandments and were asked to create their own set of rules that they believe would be important.

The children then began to learn about some of the key symbolic objects, artefacts and places linked to the Jewish faith, and then reflected upon what they had learnt. They were asked to consider how they might feel if they were Jewish.

Finally, the children were asked to reflect upon, and evaluate their learning in relation to their key enquiry question. As part of this, all the Year 4 pupils invited Ms Berger in, who is Jewish, to share their learning and also to ask some questions about what they had learnt.
