Class 4J - National Poetry Day 2023

This week, the pupils in Class 4J enjoyed celebrating National Poetry Day.

The session started off with the children discussing what poetry is and does. We read through a number of different poems and enjoyed chanting a few raps together.

After this, the children were introduced to their activity of writing a cinquain poem based around the theme of 'refuge'. We discussed the meaning of refuge and also brainstormed other potential synonyms to use for the word within our poetry. The children were asked to read a number of cinquain poems and they managed to work out the structure of the poetic form. 

The children went on to have a go at writing their own and finally published their poem.
