Class 4J-Writing unit - When the Giant Stirred

this week the children in Year 4 have begun using the storybook When the Giant Stirred. The unit started with clues about the text using photos, images and vocabulary associated with/from the book. They also had to group the vocabulary provided and explain their reasons for the groupings. The children went on to predict what type of text they thought the book was. They were then handed a selection of sentences from the text and had to modify and update their prediction. Lots of further prediction went on with looking at the front cover. Following on from this the children explored the first three illustrations from the book and began to create expanded boun phrases in readiness for writing their setting description paragraphs.
