Class 4J- DT Week

Lesson: Design and technology

Class 4J- Design Technology Week

This week, pupils in Class 4J have joined the rest of the school in theDesign Technology week focusing upon food technology.

As a year group, the Year 4' began the week considering the many ways that they can keep the, pmsekves healthy, including both physically and mentally. They considered lots of activities,  strategies and ways to keep a positive mindset Within these conversations, the children discussed what a healthy diet is. They learnt about the recommended amount of sugar that a child their age should consume in a day and compared this to well know branded drinks. The children were very surprised by just how much sugar drinks contain.

Another aspect to the week's work revolved around understanding how food such as bread is made from 'farm to fork'. They learnt about how bread is produced commercially.

As an introduction to the ayear 4 Design and Make task, the children were treated to a live web feed by Mrs White. She kindly demonstrated how to cook rice safely using her own camping equipment and outdoor how. This was fantastic and a great way to understand the process - Thank you Mrs White!

Following this, the children were asked to research one of England's well- known TV cooks, Nigella Lawson. The children were asked to research some basic information about hrs artery highlights as a cook.

Afterwards, the children designed their rice salad and learnt two different types of cut- the bridge and the claw! The children went onto to create and evaluate their meal with mixed reviews but good reflections!
