MENTAL MATHS

This week pupils in Class 4J have been working hard at developing their mental addition strategies. They have used their knowledge of rounding and adjusting and used number lines to help them understand the process.

The children thoroughly enjoyed playing a roll the dice paired game adapted from the NRich website. Good fun was had by all whilst helping them develop their mental addition skills. At the end the children also had to add up their final game totals using a written addition calculation thereby consolidating previous skills. They also were encouraged to check their mental additions at the end of their work using an iPad.
