CLASS 4J -DESIGN TECHNOLOGY PROJECT
This had term, the children having begun a Design Technology project linked to their Roman topic. The children's' design brief was to build a fast and strong 2 wheeled Roman chariot pulled by 1/2 horses to carry one rider around a race track.
To begin with, the children researched aspects of Roman entertainment and then subsequently focused upon Roman chariots themselves and their associated races. After this, the children explored and examined a range of vehicles by looking at their various parts: wheels, axles, chassis, body and cab. They looked particularly at how wheels and axles can be attached. Following this, the children went on to create a prototype to enable them to consider joining techniques.
The next step involved learning how to use a hacksaw and bench hook safely. The children had to saw 4x8 cm wooden strips and dowel.
