CLASS 4J- Design Technology- Christmas Lanterns
Durung the final week of the Autumn Term, pupils in Class 4J were involved in an exciting Design Technology project in which they were given the following design brief:
'Design and make a fully working lamp or lantern, which uses electrical components, for Christmas Carolers to use when carol singing outdoors at night time'
At the start of the week, the children investigated and explored a number of examples of light sources. They considered their purpose, design, and materials used.
The children were shown lots of potential techniques and structures to use and were asked to consider the materials and techniques that they would use. They were asked to construct their electrical circuit and consider ways in which to switch this on within their final structure.
Following the above exploration and knowledge acquired, pupils were asked to generate three designs and then select a final design that they wanted to pursue. They had to create prototypes to help them work through any issues that they might encounter before finalising their set of steps to create their lantern.
Finally, the children were asked to add in their electrical circuit into their lanterns and then to work out how to close these with either temporary or permanent joins( deoendibg upon whether their lanterns had an accesss point to be able to change the bulb or battery at some point in the future).
The children produced excellent outcomes and had demonstrated their abilities to achieve an end product which mattched the original design brief. Excellent work and excellent development of their design technology skills over the week.
Well done! Super lanterns designed and constructed !
