Class 4J- Addition and Subtraction of a 1000

This week, Class 4J have begun their maths unit of work on addition and subtraction. The children started by looking at  adding and subtracting a 1000 from a 4 digit number and revised using bar models and number lines to represent such calculations as 1000 more than 3097, and 1000 less than 9567. The children spent time practising counting up and down in 1000’s. They then began adding and subtracting multiples of a 1000 to and from 4 digit numbers.
