CLASS 4J - DESIGN TECHNOLOGY -Rat Catchers
As part of the whole school Design Technology Week, Year 4 were given the following design brief:
To design and make a rat catcher for a Stuart family to catch rats during the Plague.
The children began the task by experimenting and trialling different Lego EeDo2.0 models and programmes to decide on appropriate movements to represent the rat and the rat catcher.
Then the children were asked to create a ‘jinx’ frame by measuring, cutting and assembling the frame for their Stuart housing.
They also enjoyed creating an appropriate cobbled street effect for the alley for the alley way between the buildings.
Following this the children planned how to combine their Lego WeDo models with their Stuartbuildings. This was quite a challenge!
Finally, their solutions to catching the rats were produced, photographed and videoed.
Many rats managed to escape however the children learnt many skills along the way!
