Lacey Green Show Their Metal
Lacey Green Primary Steel Band wowed the audience at the launch of The Love Music Trust, the new music hub for Cheshire East, which was held at Sandbach School last week. On the bill alongside the UK’s top jazz singer and BBC Radio 2 Presenter Clare Teal, the young musicians from Wilmslow set the tone with an upbeat and flawless performance to a packed hall of invited guests.
Head teacher, Mrs Dooley commented:
“I was very proud of the band. We really encourage our children to have a go at music and the members of the Steel Band showed just what a high standard of performance you can achieve. We have had the Wider Opportunities programme in school for the last four years and we were given the opportunity to perform at the launch as winners of the Cheshire East Primary Schools’ Music Competition, 2012”
The Love Music Trust is funded by Arts Council England, and together with the specialist arts colleges and key partner organisations including the Halle Orchestra, the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester Metropolitan University, Foden’s Band, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Music For Life, Roland UK amongst others, the Trust is building a coherent musical landscape to support children from first access in schools through to supporting the most gifted and talented individuals.
Love Music Trust Director, John Barber comments:
“When the Government commissioned the Henley review of music in schools it re-affirmed the social and academic value of participation in music. As a musician, I understand the power of music but recognise that we need high quality teaching and, most importantly, to encourage access for all children, not just the privileged few.
He continued, “Part of the remit of the Trust is to develop partnerships to provide a cohesive service and a progression route for children to learn and perform music. For the first time, people and organisations who are passionate about music and capable of really inspiring young people are working together and we expect to make some remarkable progress over the next three years.”
