Cheshire Schools Junior Photographer
This term Year 5 have been learning about photography and what makes a good picture. We have learned about lighting, focus and filling the frame as well as experimenting with contrasting focus shots. After taking our photos, we explored different ways that we can edit them - adjusting the contrast, brightness, saturation and applying a variety of filters.
After an initial few lessons we had the opportunity to submit one photograph each to the Cheshire Schools Junor Photographer competition. The criteria for the competition was 'Be Creative.' We were lucky to have the opportunity to take some of our final photographs on a very frosty morning around school. Everyone selected their best photograph before editing it. You can see all of the final photographs below.
Mrs Billington, Head of Photography at Alderley Edge School for Girls, and her team then selected 20 winners from around 100 entries submitted from schools across Cheshire. Nine of those selected were from our school: Aysha, Bethany, Darcie, Joe, Lottie, Mabel, Mia, Seb and Vincent.
These shortlisted winners were invited to attend a photography day hosted by AESG as their prize. The day involved a morning of light painting - a technique were the children moved finger lights or light sticks while the shutter of the camera is left open for a long exposure photograph. The camera then picks up everywhere the light has moved and the resulting images show some amazing effects.
In the afernoon session, the children experimented with composition using a range of sea shells and positioning them in different arrangements to create the best image. Again they then looked at editing their photographs to enhance the image as they saw fit.
At the end of the day, the overall winners were announced. Both third and second place were taken my other schools, but first place was awarded to Bethany. You can see all of the photographs in the gallery below.
